Known for packing on serious meat gains, as well as their trusted fertility and performance – the Angus breed is well suited to New Zealand farming conditions.
Made from a combination of Pure New Zealand genetics, and high-performance genetics sourced from Australia and The United States, our Piquet Hill Angus is the best of both worlds.
With a breeding program that prides itself on its strong maternal focus, the Piquet Hill Angus is one of the top herds in New Zealand for calving ease – with the majority of bulls produced, more than adapt for heifer mating.
Farmed in a commercial setting, our customers love the hardy and New Zealand adept genetics our Angus Bulls give to their farms, making it a smart addition to your farming operation.
Our Breeding Objective
The breeding objective of our Angus herd is simple – to build a fertile and prolific animal, that thrives in New Zealand conditions; resulting in cattle that maximise the returns of its farming operation.
Female Factory
The environment at our Te akau farm is challenging for breeding stock, with periods of extended dry in summer, extreme heat and Facial eczema. Females are primarily required to clean up pasture throughout the summer months grooming pasture to assist in sheep production.
This makes our Angus cows both hardy and durable to withstand the demands of this farming country; whilst also scoring high fertility ratings, with the ability to conceive as a yearling and every year following.
To ensure you get the best Angus for your farming operation, we’ve put a strong emphasis on populating the herd with dam lines that are fertile and prolific; conceiving early in the mating cycles every year and rearing calves over 50% of the cow’s body weight.
Key Drivers
The end goal of our breeding operation is to produce a high-performance Angus genetic, that is more than capable of handling the harsh environment of New Zealand’s farming country.
Through the use of Artificial breeding and Embryo transfers, we’ve been optimizing the genetics year on year, to produce bulls with above average calving ease direct and below-average birth weights; as well as cattle with moderate growth, moderate size and efficiency at weaning, with females weaning over 50% of their body weight.
This has resulted in both fertile and prolific females, as well as bulls with sound structures and temperaments – that won’t cause any headaches on your farm.
